The adolescent brain is a work-in-progress. Dr. Chamberlain provides an overview of the building blocks of the brain to demonstrate how heightened plasticity creates a critical window of opportunity during adolescent brain development. Using creative visual aids, she focuses attention on the areas of the brain that show the most profound changes during adolescence and engages participants to understand how these changes influence adolescents’ emotions, learning, decision-making, and behaviors. The role of technology in shaping our brains and the emerging risks of digital abuse are explored. Practical strategies for improving communication, maximizing healthy brain development, and minimizing stress and conflict are woven throughout the presentation.

Today’s world is constantly on the move, and the rate at which it’s changing is so profound that you can’t trust your eyes to show you reality, because they’re really showing you history. This presentation challenges your assumptions about the world we live in and the future we’re heading for by carefully examining the significance of several global exponential trends. Windows on Tomorrow asks us to consider how these trends affect and will continue to affect our personal and professional lives, our children, our learning institutions, the nature of teaching and learning, and even our definition of intelligence. This presentation, based on the new book, Living on the Future Edge: Windows on Tomorrow from the 21st Century Fluency Project, is a compelling glimpse into the bold, dynamic future that awaits us all.
